What is Brief Therapy & How may it Transform Healing?
Beyond the Endless Conversation:
What is Brief therapy? -
Brief therapy is a short-term form of psychotherapy that generally focuses on solutions rather than problems.
Before I became a brief therapist, I used to have a typical counselling practice using talk therapies with some art therapies. Over time I began to wonder if it was possible to speed up the therapy process. I have always been interested in finding better ways to improve the way I work with my clients.
The popular image of counselling and psychotherapy has been a weekly appointment process that was open ended in often spanning months or even years. Unpacking the past hour by hour. This does offer a space for the client to be seen and heard, which has value. However, it can sometimes lead to "therapy fatigue". Depending on the therapy style, this may lead to teaching people how to manage symptoms, finding new perspectives, or endlessly re-telling their stories.
But do the underlying emotional or psychological blocks remain in place?
Why Is Therapy Taking So Long? (And Why You’er Still Stuck?)
Showing up to weekly therapy for months or years to analyse your behavior often leads to "therapy fatigue." If you understand your triggers intellectually but still feel the heavy emotional weight with traditional talk therapies might be stalling your progress:
- Treating Emotion with Logic: Talk therapy primarily engages the conscious, analytical mind. While great for building self-awareness, deep emotional wounds live in the subconscious. You cannot simply talk your subconscious out of a survival pattern.
- The Story Loop: Endlessly recounting your past trauma reinforces the neural pathways of the pain. True healing requires processing the emotional charge of the memory, not going over your thoughts and feelings repeatedly to make sense of them.
- Unseen Systemic Loyalties: Many deeply ingrained roadblocks—such as repeating relationship failures or chronic anxiety—are inherited through family systems. If therapy only looks at your individual timeline, the systemic root remains untouched.
Enter Brief Therapy—
a shift that measures success not by the hours spent on the issue(s) but by the satisfaction or change in the client.
Brief Therapy is a, solution-focused approach. Rather than lingering on surface-level symptoms or the problems, it aims to assist you in finding solutions.
There are many styles of Brief therapies
My style of Brief therapy is utilising twenty-first century scientific research and innovations to find better ways of working with the mind. This is efficient, effective, gentle and safe.
These include new advancements, processes and research have helped to provide crucial knowledge to inform the practice of Brief therapies. Some of these are:
- Epigenetics
- Neuroscience
- Innovation in Mind Science-new psychotherapies
- Family Constellations
- Emotional Mind Integration
- Rapid Core Healing
- Advanced and targeted Hypnotherapies.
Instead of asking, "How can we manage this symptom?" My style of Brief Therapy asks, "What is the root cause, and how can we permanently resolve it now?"
Healing doesn’t have to be a lifelong project. By moving away from symptom management and looking deeper into the subconscious and systemic roots of our challenges, profound shifts can happen quickly.
Brief Therapy respects both your time and your capacity to heal, offering a clear path forward—so you can get out of the therapy room and back to living your life.
The problem is that we rely on talk therapy to try to solve the problem. We access only the conscious mind. The 5 % when the cause of the problem is often lying in the subconscious mind, the 95% .
Shifting from symptom management to working directly with subconscious root-cause with well-designed and safe resolution processes allows you to process root cause blocks and disturbances directly. Thereby shrinking the healing timeline dramatically.
Does Short-Term and Brief Therapy Actually Work for Trauma?
The traditional belief is that deep trauma requires years of painful, weekly unpacking. However, clinical focus on intensive, short-term trauma treatments proves that rapid, targeted therapy is not only effective—it is often much safer.
- The Risk of Re-traumatisation: Spending an hour a week detailing trauma forces your nervous system to relive the threat. Leaving a session with a highly activated nervous system is a primary reason traditional trauma therapy has high dropout rates.
- Bypassing the Narrative: Advanced brief therapies target the somatic (body) and subconscious roots. You do not need to endlessly retell the story; the focus is on clearing how your nervous system is holding the memory today.
- Precision Processing: Rapid modalities gently access the specific emotional block and integrate the repressed energy immediately. This dynamic momentum prevents the weekly buildup of anxiety and avoidance.
- One very important to bear in mind is this – it is suitable for people who are really ready for change.
- Healing trauma is not about deleting a memory - it is about removing the emotional charge attached to it.
Traditional Talk Therapy vs. Brief Therapy
| Traditional Talk Therapy | Yildiz’s Brief Therapy & Systemic Resolution | |
| Timeline | Months or years of open-ended, weekly sessions. | Typically 1 to 4 targeted sessions. |
| Focus | Symptom management and continuous behavioural coping. | Root-cause resolution for permanent change. |
| Method | Cognitive analysis and retelling the trauma story. | Subconscious and systemic processing. |
| Goal | Insight and ongoing emotional support. | Clearing the specific block so the client can move forward independently. |
Methods used in Brief Psychotherapy
Approaching trauma (with precision) at the subconscious level allows for rapid resolution without demanding years of your life.
This is approached by working with the Personal and Subconscious mind.
- The Personal with Emotional Mind Integration to gain fast accurate access to the cause of the disturbance with a with safe and effective approach for processing it quickly.
- The Systemic Connection: Healing at the Root to gain fast access to the cause of a disturbance from your family system.
One of the reasons traditional therapies can stall is that it often treats the individual in isolation. However, many of the emotional patterns, anxieties, and relationship roadblocks we face are not entirely our own—they are deeply entangled in our family systems.
By integrating Systemic and Family Constellations into a short-term therapeutic model, practitioners can uncover hidden generational loyalties and subconscious dynamics. When you address the issue at this systemic root, the need to spend months intellectually analysing the problem evaporates. The unseen forces holding the pattern in place are brought to light, acknowledged, and shifted.
This dual-action approach—addressing both the individual subconscious and the broader family system—allows for rapid and lasting change without the risk of re-traumatisation through endless storytelling.
Who benefits most from this approach?
Yildiz's Brief Therapy approach is not a one-size-fits-all solution, but rather a client centered approach that may be adapted to individual needs. It is generally not suited for complex psychiatric conditions. However, it is profoundly effective for:
- People who have done many years of self-help or other therapies who still carry their problem.
- People who are really ready for change.
- People who want to get on with their life more fully.
- Individuals stuck in repeating patterns: Those who continually attract the same relationship dynamics or hit the same career roadblocks.
- Clients experiencing "Therapy Fatigue": People who understand their issues intellectually but still feel the emotional weight and lack of progress.
- Trauma survivors seeking relief: Those who want to resolve past pain gently, without the exhausting process of continuously reliving the events.
- Time-conscious individuals: People who value a precise, targeted, and highly effective intervention.
