Managing the Dilemma in Family Constellations training Yildiz
Family Constellations is a highly experiential training that is unregulated at this time. The founder Bert Hellinger set it up in this way so that people who were Mums and Dads or simply interested, but not therapists, could do the training. Because he thought there should be no exclusion of people who were attracted to this way of thinking and doing.
While this has benefits, it also has a downside, as I am constantly being told horror stories of people who have set themselves up as Family Constellations practitioners who simply attended workshops, (no training) or have misinterpreted the work and are causing a lot of distress and confusion with people they see. Serious mental health harm may be done here.
Further, there are Family Constellations trainers who have set up cult-like groups where trainees are fearful of being alienated or shamed if they ask probing questions of the work, theory or practice as the trainer has set themselves up as an almost guru-like figure. This kind of work can attract people who are narcissistic or who have serious mental health issues themselves elevating themselves to positions of power.
When we set up our practice in 2005 and our trainings, we were aware of this and decided to attempt to lead by example. I have a Master’s degree in counselling and diploma in Hypnotherapist and over 22 years of experience with clients and am a registered counsellor and hypnotherapist in Australia and am guided by legal and ethical and mental health issues and am in constant professional supervision and offer supervision to my trainees. I am also an experienced educator of counsellors.
So in short, I am doing my best to provide the best practice I can of this profound work.
I do still allow practitioners and non-practitioners to do the training but am selective in who I take on.
I have created a course that is a fully online 12 week course (140 hours) that involves weekly videos, readings and tasks. The experiential component is 6 days in all online with the group and myself where theory is put into practice and includes significant personal development throughout. Trainees experience their own constellations in their own learning and growth and those of each of the group and have to do four case studies of Family Constellations and submit them to complete. Group or individual supervision is available for those who which to take part to support them in their practice and growth in the work. In addition trainees are taught several formats of private sessions and how to work online and in person.
In this training:
- you experience holding constellation sessions.
- You will be able to get indemnity insurance as a Family Constellation practitioner or add this to existing insurance.
- Once you are completed and insured you have a choice of going onto my website of Trained By Us
- Supervision if you choose to take part, recognised by ACA, PACFA.
- You have the option of doing advanced training in Family Constellations and my other modalities.
- I have been holding Family Constellations training for 15 years
Constellation theory and practice is profound. This is perfect for anyone who wants to work with relationships, family dynamics, systemic trauma and self-worth. Poor self-worth often comes from family systems and often underpins depression, anxiety or panic attacks.
